While the EGO Power+ Select Cut LM2156SP mower is generally powerful, the battery life may not be sufficient for larger lawns without needing a recharge or swapping to a backup battery, which could be inconvenient for some users. (19 reviews)
“I went through the 5.0 battery and had to use the 4.0 to finish my quarter-acre yard.”
“The only thing that would make this better, would be more battery life. My yard is not all that big, and I have the 10-amp battery, but it was not able to finish the whole thing.”
“I was surprised by how quickly the 10ah battery discharged (~30 minutes)”
“The 10Ah battery takes 3 charges to mow a 3/5 acre lawn”
“If wet, then the mower loads up with clippings every pass down the length of the lawn...also saps battery life.”
“Does go through battery fast in high grass.”
“Even without self-propel mode, I can’t finish without switching batteries about three-fourths of the way through and I have the large 7.5 amp-hour battery.”
“Battery charge is good for “up to” 80 minutes of “light duty use”. I get more like 60 minutes”
“I found that the batteries last for about an hour on a full charge, and the batteries charge in about 70 minutes. I have a large yard, and it takes me about two hours to do the whole thing.”
“only issue is stated battery life .5 acers / its doesn't meet that standard and it takes 2 charges to complete .4 acers.”
Some users found the mower too heavy and awkward to handle, especially when dealing with uneven ground, obstacles, and making turns. This made it difficult for some to use the mower safely. (17 reviews)
“This mower is way too heavy and cumbersome to safely operate in the real world with uneven yards, obstacles, and constant turns.”
“I noticed that if I hit a bump it wanted to lift and missed mowing a small part of the lawn as the drive wheels were still pushing.”
“I found that it was better to turn the speed way down or even off when doing tight spaces or around things like legs of a playset so that I was not fighting the self propelled pull.”
“a little hard to handle with the speed when turning”
“LEAVING THE HANDLE EXTENDED MAKES IT HARDER FOR HER TO MANEUVER IT.”
“The mower is heavier than a comparable gas mower, and consequently, using it without self-propel mode requires more effort to push.”
“Mower is longer than a traditional mower so I found making turns a bit awkward.”
“Be careful when you maneuver as it may feel it would run over”
“The drive controls are difficult when making a180 degree turn up against a fence or tree.”
“Very difficult to turn around when in tight quarters like at edge of property or around flower beds.”
The self-propel feature's engagement mechanism received criticism for being overly sensitive, causing accidental activation or deactivation during use. Users preferred the previous mower's system that was perceived as more intuitive and user-friendly. (6 reviews)
“the one negative for me so far is the solution for engaging the self- propelling feature. The two embedded switches in the handle are not as holistic a user interface as the previous model. First time I used the new mower I wanted to move it over two feet after putting battery in; when putting my hand on the handle to give it a slight shove I unintentionally engaged the embedded switch and the mower started zipping away. Same thing when cutting; I typically use the drive when going up the slight rise in my front yard but not at other times and I find it counterintuitive to position my hands on the handle such that it doesn’t engage (particularly when maneuvering the mower when your hands tend to move around a bit). Vice-a-versa, once engaged if your hands move slightly it disengages too easily. I guess I could dial the speed back to zero after disengaging, but repeatedly dialing that off and on (and finding right speed when on) would be a PIA. I liked the previous scheme of the lever you would pull back to lie against the handle much better - was a more conscious and positive step to engage the drive, and easier to keep engaged as your hand moves about a bit on the handle. Safer too, IMHO.”
“It took me a minute to figure out the self propel system, setting the speed was really tricky for me. ... What I noticed that I didn't like was that the self propel wheels are the rear rather than front. Coming to a corner or turning around meant releasing the handle buttons for the control, keep the bale depressed so the blade keeps going, tilt and turn then go again. If you release the bale and the blade stops, you have to push the button on the control panel while simultaneously squeezing the bale ....... hassle.”
“I found that it was better to turn the speed way down or even off when doing tight spaces or around things like legs of a playset so that I was not fighting the self propelled pull.”
“Occasionally it would lock the wheels, and I would tap the throttle quickly to let it freely roll backward.”
“The only minor negative I have is the self propel isn't as nuisanced as I would like. There's a pretty good jump in speed between each setting.”
“Instructions says to push forward a little to get it to release the transmission to pull back - that does not always work so trying to pull back and the drive wheels are locked.”
The EGO Power+ LM2156SP is a quiet, battery-powered lawnmower with a double-blade system for a sharp cut and excellent mulching, even in thick grass. It offers a range of batteries for longer use, easy start-up, and height adjustment. Plus, the batteries work with other EGO tools. It's foldable for easy storage and comes with a good warranty and extra blades. However, the battery may not last in big yards, it's heavy for some, and the self-propel can be touchy.
